CLOIS “LEE” HANUS
1934 – 2019
Clois “Lee” Hanus, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Columbus, Texas on October 19, 2019 following a lengthy battle with cancer. He kept his well-known sense of humor till the very end. He previously resided in Navasota, Tomball and Deer Park. He is survived by 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Lee enlisted in The National Guard at the age of 15 with permission from his father. In 1951 he transferred into the United States Marine Corps and retired as a Captain with 20 years of active service and another 10 years in the reserves. During his tenure in the U.S. Marine Corp, Lee was stationed in California, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.
After serving our country honorably, Lee became a member of Pipefitters Local Union 211 in Houston, Texas and worked in Lima, Peru for Occidental Petroleum Company and retired as a supervisor after 22 years.
In 1954 he married Billie Ann Wilks and they had four children, Phillip Michael, Deborah Lynn, Timothy Lee, and Thomas Alan.
Lee is preceded in death by his wife Billie Ann Ha-nus, who passed in February of 2000, his parents Adolph Jr. and Evelyn Hanus, and his brothers Arthur Noel Hanus and Jerry Thomas Hanus. Lee will be laid to rest, following a private service, next to Billie Ann Hanus in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
Lee enjoyed researching and planting different varieties of Texas native flowering plants and trees, and landscaping his yard. In his later years, he enjoyed watching old Western Movies, reading, sitting outside with his cat Little Bit and beloved dogs Cookie and Zuma, and frequent visits from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lee is survived by his children; son Phillip Michael Hanus and wife Gaylynne, daughter Deborah Lynn Wahlberg and husband Lennard, son Timothy Lee Ha-nus and wife Kay, and son Thomas Hanus Crawford and husband Michael. His nephews Arthur Hanus and Jerry Hanus.
Lee’s grandchildren are Timothy Ryan Hanus and wife Katie, Latisha Renee Kristynik and husband Shaun, Justin William Wahlberg and wife Lauren, Heather Anne Redmann and husband Jeff, Janel Lee Bar-ten and husband Jacob, and Sean Michael Hanus. His great grandchildren are, in order of their parents; Ruby and Amelia Hanus, Cameron and Hope Hutto, Jaxon, Jacie, James and Jordyn Wahlberg, Levi Redman, and Cambry, Camdin, Callen and Cort Barten.
The family is very grateful to the professional caregivers who helped Lee in the last year of his life. The tireless work and heart-felt kindness of Shelia Toliver and Hazel Smallwood, as well as Shellie Ford and Vanessa Williams and others at Compassionate Care Hospice who helped the family during this very difficult time.
