2018: Navasota 29, Worthing 0; Navasota used two third-quarter scores to pull away from Worthing. The Rattlers racked up 400 total yards of offense led by Navasota quarterback Zack Dyer. He was 9-18 passing for 135 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Dyer also carried the ball 15 times for 96 yards and a touchdown. Rattlers limited the Colts to 235 yards of offense. Jackson Harris was 10-19 passing for 195 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. William Simpson caught 6 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. He also scored a rushing touchdown.

The Matchup

Harris returns as quarterback during his senior season for Worthing. He leads a spread offense and operates primarily out of the shotgun. He is a threat to run with a lot of plays designed specifically for him. He uses his feet to open up quick passes to the outside and will take occasional chances down-field.

Navasota has become a run by committee offense which has kept fresh legs in the game and gave their offense a spark. Defenses have adjusted by loading the box leaving receivers in one-on-one coverage down-field. Navasota’s receivers are tough to single cover allowing Dyer to connect for huge gains.

Keys to victory

The Rattlers pitched a shutout last week and the defense has begun creating turnovers regularly. Worthing will need to figure out a way to move the ball against a stingy defense. If Navasota continues to dominate defensively, they will likely win in convincing fashion again this week.
