Christ Our Light Bazaar Sunday

Christ Our Light Catholic Church’s annual bazaar is set for Sunday, Sept. 29, starting at 11:30 a.m. This event takes place at the Grimes County Expo Center in Navasota each year. Highlights include a barbecue dinner, live and silent auction, booths and games for all ages will highlight the day.

The Anderson-Shiro Elementary Fall Festival will take place at the elementary school Friday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 p.m. till 8 p.m. The evening will consist of games, prizes, mechanical bull, food, silent auction and a live auction beginning at 7 p.m. Come out and bring your children to enjoy fun and fellowship and help support the school as well.

More events coming up in October is the St. Stanislaus Church Bazaar Sunday, Oct. 13; “Faces of Grimes County” by Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin Tuesday, Oct. 15; the Knights of Columbus Spaghetti Dinner and Gun Raffle Friday, Oct. 18; the Anderson-Shiro Education Foundation annual fund-raiser Saturday, Oct. 19; and Anderson’s Trunk or Treat Saturday, Oct. 26.

Last week Sheriff Don Sowell attended the annual Southwestern Border Sheriffs Conference in Tucson, Arizona. This conference, hosted by Pima, Arizona Sheriff Mark Napier, was attended by Sheriffs from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and many Sheriffs from around the country. Members of the Border Patrol, U.S. Dept. of Justice and others were in attendance to share progress of the wall information and intelligence about the border problems including the drug war and human trafficking as well as many other topics.

Despite some of the week’s Homecoming activities being dampened by the rain, for the most part fun was had by all. Congratulations to the new royalty, king Kreese Milligan and queen Delaney Compean. Hats off to the “cookers” of the pulled pork used for sandwiches for the sophomore class fundraiser Friday night. The sandwiches were packed full of the delicious savory pork.

Here’s a sweet story from my grandson Colton Waitz who just turned four Sunday. I had stopped by their home a few days before his birthday and he was playing in a small swimming pool in the yard. He asked me to come over and watch him swim. He put his googles on and fell face first in the pool. As he was gasping for air and wiping the water from his face, I told him how good that was and how proud I was of him. He said “GiGi, when you grow up you can learn how to do that too!” Ahhhh, to be a kid again!
