National night out scheduled for Oct. 1
Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt announced that Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Navasota Police Department will lead the city in “National Night Out.” Neighborhoods throughout Navasota are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities for the “36th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event.
According to Chief Myatt, National Night Out is designed to: 1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; 3) Strengthen Neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; 4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The department is encouraging Navasota citizens to get involved in National Night Out by hosting a block party. Block parties have proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable way to promote neighborhood spirit that will extend well beyond the one night.
Register your block party by calling the Navasota Police Department, 936-825-6124, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Deadline to register is by noon on Sept. 27, 2019.
