In high school, she met the love of her life David Birdwell. They were high school sweethearts and were united in marriage on April 5, 1971. They were married for 48 years. To this union two beautiful daughters were born, Cynthia and Stephanie Birdwell of Pearland. Bettie retired from the Navasota Independent School D istrict where she served as a teacher’s aide. She worked at the Navasota Junior High School. She loved her students and coworkers and impacted many lives.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Rayfield Chatman.

She leaves her loving family to cherish precious memories and her devoted husband, David Birdwell; two daughters, Cynthia and Stephanie Birdwell; grandson, Jordan Birdwell; sisters, Alice Wheatfall, Bobbie Prosper (Marcellas), Sinatra Steptoe, Brenda Chatman and her brother James Chatman (Cherie); a loving aunt, Gloria Johnson; her in-laws and host of other relatives and friends.
