Sad farewell to Gospel singing

It’s sad to say that it appears the gospel singings in this area have finally come to an end. For the past year or longer the only singing has been at the Carlos Missionary Baptist Church and that singing hasn’t taken place for some time. Singings at Free Will Baptist Church have ended as well. Enon Missionary Baptist Church, Sand Prairie Church and Rock Prairie Church all ended their singings years ago. I guess all good things eventually come to an end.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of John Steven Gist of Katy. He was the son of Shirly Gist, sister of June Templeton. Attending the funeral Friday, June 7, in Katy were June Timpleton and Bob and Tina Timpleton. Do remember John’s wife and other family members in your prayers.

Several area residents attended the installation of officers for the Iola-North Zulch order of the Eastern Star No. 458 at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge in North Zulch Saturday, June 8. A good time was had by all that were present. Following the installation there was a time of fellowship over a meal of sandwiches, chips and other goodies.

George Best of Keith celebrated his 90th birthday with a party at the Evergreen Free Will Baptist fellowship hall, Saturday, June 8. A good number of family and friends attended to wish him well.

Upcoming events in the community include the monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club Thursday, June 27, beginning with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Come out and visit with your friends and family members.
