Unveiling of WWI monument April 7

The unveiling of a WWI monument, donated to Grimes County by the Robert Raines Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), will take place Saturday, April 6, in the Anderson Historic Park. Geoff Horn and Children of the American Revolution (CAR) will ring the Methodist Church bell three times to signal the beginning of the ceremony at 3 p.m. A host of local and state officials, a bugler from the Texas A&M University Aggie Band, Heroes of ’76 from College Station, the Rev. Jeremy Woodley, Robert Raines Chapter NSDAR Regent Kathy Wells, Johnny and Lisè McNally, Mackenzie May-field, VFW Post 4006 Commander Carl Dry, and many other key people and organizations that were instrumental in making this event happen will be on hand to honor our WWI veterans. So, please mark your calendars now for this special event!

•The town of Anderson Clean Up Day this past Saturday was a total success. We filled up two large cargo dumpsters with brush, limbs and anything else that was trash throughout the town. A big thank you to Al Peeler, Grimes County Community Service Coordinator, for providing community service workers from Adult Probation, who furnished lots of manpower; Alderman Daryl Alford, who used his manpower to clear brush that blocked stop signsand clipped back limbs that obstructed town streets; Brian Griesbach, who once again graciously volunteered time to bring out and pick up the dumpsters, and the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Association, who allowed him to do so; Alderman Karen McDuffie, who lined up the dumpsters and worked the ditches with volunteers; Karen’s family that is always on hand to help out; resident Kason Menges, who helped unload carload and truckloads of trash at the site; Alderman Harold Minor, who stopped by to lend a hand a bit; and to everyone who took advantage of the dumpster to rid brush and trash from their households.

•The Grimes County Blue Ribbon Ceremony, hosted by Scotty’s House Child Advocacy Center, along with local law enforcement and child service agencies, will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at the Grimes County Law Enforcement Center. The ceremony raises awareness of the serious problem of child abuse and/or neglect in our community and will be dedicated to the 64 confirmed such cases in Grimes County in 2018. A reception will follow the ceremony at the LEC.

•The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Relay For Life Team is participating in a canned food drive. Please consider donating canned foods to help “feed the community” and “knock cancer off the board!” A drop off box for the food drive is located in the lobby of the sheriff’s office until April
