All Together Now: Library Summer Reading Program
Navasota Public Library’s Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party is Friday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “All Together Now” with an emphasis on kindness and community.
Navasota Noon Lion’s Club will have free sno-cones and provide eye screenings. Navasota Police and Fire Departments will give tours of their police car and fire truck. Parents can sign their children up for events and receive reading logs. If children read 30 minutes a day for at least five days a week, they can bring their logs in each week for prizes such as free ice cream coupons from Sonic and Dairy Queen, laser tag coupons from Grand Station, bubbles and more.
Reading starts June 5 and ends July 28. Books do not have to be library books, they can be any books, e-books or audiobooks found at home, school or elsewhere. They may also be picture books, or the children can be read to.
“I even tell parents that reading a menu at a restaurant or reading posters at the doctor’s office counts,” said Library Director Tiffany Byers. “Reading over the summer keeps children’s minds and imaginations engaged. In our busy world, we also understand there is a need for families to connect. We hope these events will provide FREE opportunities for families to create lasting memories.”
