Young Panthers finish third
It was a busy week for the Richards Lady Panthers, but a productive one that was capped with a third-place finish at the Coldspring-Oakhurst Lady Trojan Volleyball Tournament.
The Lady Panthers began the week hosting Coldspring- Oakhurst Tuesday, Aug. 30, winning in three sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-23). Alayna Francis had 15 kills and an ace. Kylie Bates had 25 assists, Chesney Calhoun had an ace and Haley Perry had two aces. Coldspring- Oakhurst Tournament Richards went 2-0 to begin tournament action Thursday, Sept. 1. The Lady Panthers swept Goodrich 2-0 (25-11, 25-10) and Coldspring-Oakhurst (25-11, 27-25). Francis led the way with 9 kills, followed by Cadence Nance with 8 kills. Bates had 24 assists and four aces.
In Saturday action, Richards dropped their opening- match to Providence (16-25, 21-25) then beat Latexo 2-0 (25-23, 25-10). Through the two games, Francis had 12 kills, Bates recorded 20 assists and Nance had five aces.
Friday, Sept. 2, vs New Waverly The Lady Panthers outlasted the New Waverly Lady Bulldogs in an intense five-set match (29-27, 18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 16-14).
Richards traveled to Hempstead Tuesday, Sept. 6 (results were not available at press time). They host Snook Friday, Sept. 9.
