A-S Owls fly into the playoffs

ANDERSON – Anderson-Shiro took the lead on a grand slam and flew into the playoffs with a 10-4 win over Coldspring-Oakhurst April 22.

The Lady Trojans won the first matchup the previous week by a narrow 5-4 decision. The Trojans attacked first with two runs in the opening inning. The Lady Owls split the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the second. Jade Buchanan led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on an error. She advanced to third on Josey Imhoff’s groundout. Gabby Goudeau drove her in on a groundout to shortstop. 

Kellie Duff walked to begin the home-half of the third and was later plated on a one-out single by freshman Ally White to tie the game. Buchanan cleared the bases with her first career grand slam grabbing a 6-2 advantage. She was 2-4 in the game with a pair of runs scored and four RBI’s. White was 3-4 at the plate with three RBI’s and a run scored.

Alyssa Tippy singled to lead off the bottom of the fourth and scored on a line-drive single from Alysa Zehler. The Owls scored two more in the inning. White drove in Zehler and senior Summer Adams. Adams was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Anderson-Shiro’s final score was on a groundout by Adams that plated Aubrey Williams in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Trojans picked up a run in the fifth and one in the seventh to finalize the score 4-10.

The Lady Owls, fourth place in District 23-3A will battle the East Bernard Lady Brahmas, District 24-3A Champions, in a best-of-three series at Ira Floyd Field at Navasota High School. Game one and two are slated for Thursday, April 27, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Game three if necessary is Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
