Renick helps lead Aggies to bowl win

Tarleton State University junior Jordan Wells was nominated for a prestigious football award.

The Navasota High School graduate was among 61 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II players nominated for the Cliff Harris Award.

The award recognizes the nation’s best defensive player from divisions II and III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Defensive lineman Wells was not among the finalists for the award, however.

In his first year at Tarleton State, he was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association All-Super Region 4 second team. He was the Lone Star Conference defensive lineman of the year and an all-conference first-team selection.

Iola High graduate Ryan Renick played for Texas A & M University during the team’s win over Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. The junior tight end appeared in last year’s Gator Bowl victory as well.

Men’s basketball

Navasota resident Trajan Wesley had a career-best performance for University of Louisiana at Lafayette against University of California, Santa Barbara. The sophomore guard played a career-high 38 minutes in the start and finished with a career-high 15 points. He had five assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Kae’ron Baker had 21 points for Louisiana College in a win over Linfield College, leading players from both teams in scoring. The former Rattler led the team with seven assists and had five rebounds and two steals.

Women’s basketball

Keaundra Eddings of Blinn College had nine points against McLennan Community College. The Navasota alumna matched her season high of six rebounds.

D’Asia White led McMurry University with five assists against Tarleton State. The starter from Anderson-Shiro High had five points and three rebounds.
