Rattler pitcher key for ETBU
MARSHALL – Navasota Alumni Trent Clark is playing a vital role in the NCAA Division III post season tournament helping his East Texas Baptist University Tigers advance to the Super Regionals. The Tigers will host University of La Vernia (California) in the Super Regionals May 26-27, a best-of-three series. Game one is slated for a noon start Friday. Game two is 11 a.m. Saturday with a third game (if necessary) 45 minutes after game two.
ETBU won the American Southwest Conference tournament and hosted the Regional tournament. Clark had mound appearances in three of the six games earning wins in two of the games. Commencement ceremonies were hosted during the tournament, so a special graduation was held for baseball players at the conclusion of the tournament. Clark earned his BA in Sports Management.
In the opening game of the Regional tournament, the Tigers knocked off Cal Lutheran 16-6. Clark closed out the Regional Semifinal win over Trinity (San Antonio), 9-4. ETBU fell in game one of the Regional Finals but answered with a tournament clinching 2-1 win over Trinity. Clark entered in the top of the eighth inning with his team trailing 1-0 in the final game. He held Trinity at bay not allowing a run. The senior allowed one hit and struck out one. He picked up the win with the Tigers scoring two in the bottom of the eighth.
