Lady Rattlers force penalty kicks in match
Trailing throughout the majority of the game, Navasota used a late score to force penalty kicks against Montgomery JV.
Montgomery capitalized on a handball call converting the penalty kick for an early 1-0 lead. With only a few minutes remaining in the game, the Lady Rattlers attacked. Jocelyn Santoy crossed a defender and kicked across the goal setting up Yesenia Gomez for the tie. The Lady Bears advanced to the championship game winning the penalty kick shootout 3-1.
Navasota finished the tournament 3-1 with wins over Rockdale, Bryan JV and Cameron. Against Rockdale, Mayra Castillo scored four goals. Mariah Guevara scored a goal and had an assist. Jasmine Gonzalez had two assists.
Guevara scored the lone goal in the shutout over Bryan JV. Jami Palafox had two saves. Castillo scored the goal in the shutout against Cameron. Palafox had three saves and Gomez was recognized for her outstanding defensive performance.
The Lady Rattlers play at the Cameron tournament Jan. 12-14 with times TBA. Navasota travels to Madisonville Jan. 17, with the game slated for 5 p.m.
Varsity Boys
Navasota went 2-2 at the Madisonville Mustang tournament Jan. 5-7. The Rattlers picked up wins over Madisonville 2-0, and Westwood 3-1. They suffered losses to Montgomery 1-0 and Bryan 1-0.
Navasota plays at the Huffman tournament Jan. 12-14 with times TBA. The Rattlers play at Rice Jan. 17 scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
