Hurst bucking to the bank
Paden Hurst has performed well in recent rodeos.
The Anderson-Shiro High School graduate earned $3,500 by tying for first in bareback riding in the semifinal B at a Fort Worth event.
He finished second in the second round of the third bracket to collect $1,320. He earned $440 by placing fourth in the first round of the third bracket.
At the Dixie National Rodeo in Mississippi, he tied for fourth in bareback riding to earn $1,004.
As of Thursday, he ranked third in the event in the Texas circuit standings with $5,668.80 earned, according to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He ranked 13th in the PRCA/RAM World standings with $10,928.80.
Baseball
Brookhaven College sophomore pitcher Trent Clark earned a victory against Johnson County. The Navasota High graduate struck out five in two and one-third innings. He allowed one hit and an unearned run.
LeTourneau University freshman Jaggar Vaughn singled twice in four at-bats during a start as a designated hitter against Millsaps. He played for Iola High.
Freshman pitcher Cody Ozbolt struck out two in one hitless, scoreless inning of relief for Southwestern Christian University against Central Baptist. The past Bulldog faced three batters.
Jackson Fultz is a freshman for Texas State University in the National Club Baseball Association. He competed for Navasota.
Men’s basketball
The American Southwest Conference on Feb. 10 cited former Rattler Kae’ron Baker in the other top performances of its weekly report. The Louisiana College junior averaged 18 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in two games.
Kyle Kildare had six rebounds for Howard Payne University against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The sophomore out of Iola High had four points and blocked a shot.
Softball
Previously at Navasota, Kynsee Gesch handled her five fielding chances in a start for University of Texas at Dallas against Mary-Hardin Baylor. The senior utility player, who caught, was hitless in two at-bats.
Freshman Mikaela Dickenson singled in two at-bats in her Neosho County Community College debut. Listed on the roster as a catcher, the position she played at Iola, she started at third base and made four putouts.
