Harris named to all-star team

Garrett Harris has been rewarded for his pitching success.

Playing his first year in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, the Anderson-Shiro High School graduate was named to tonight’s All-Star Game against the Frontier League.

The right-hander was one of three Trois-Rivieres Aigles, including two pitchers, selected. Harris pitched last year for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.

Pointstreak, official statistician of the league, named Harris the Can-Am League’s pitcher of the month for June. He had a 3-0 record and 2.15 earned run average and struck out 42 in 37.2 innings.

In 10 appearances as of June 3, he had a 5-0 record, tying for the league lead in wins. His 2.39 ERA ranked third with his 63 strikeouts second.

Pitcher Tyler Eppler had a 4-2 record and 2.55 ERA in 12 games for the Orix Buffaloes in the Nippon league in Japan. The Navasota High alumnus and former Pittsburgh Pirates minor-leaguer had two holds.

Josh Mancuso threw a hitless, scoreless inning of relief for Souris Valley against Casper in the Expedition League. The past Owl, who pitched for Paris Junior College as a freshman, struck out two.

Right-hander Dalton Acosta pitched a hitless, scoreless inning of relief for Yuba-Sutter against Medford in the Golden State league. The Navasota product had a 0-3 record and 4.26 ERA in 10 games. He plays for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Men’s rodeo

Navasota resident Foster McCraw finished first in bull riding at a Crosby, Texas, event, earning $2,142. As of Thursday, he ranked 30th in bull riding in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Ram World standings with $31,432.13 in earnings. He ranked second in the Texas Circuit standings with $23,026.68, according to the PRCA site.
