Eppler earns Futbol championship

Shelton Eppler has ended the football season as a champion.

The quarterback out of Navasota High School led Fundidores de Monterrey to the championship title in Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, a spring league in Mexico.

The Fundidores defeated Gallos Negros de Querétaro 18-14 in the Mexico Bowl.

It was his first time playing in the league that was founded in 2016.

Freshman defensive back Keith Steptoe made two solo tackles for the Texas A & M University white squad during the spring game against the maroon team. The former Rattler made a stop for a 3-yard rushing loss, and his other was after a 7-yard pass reception.

Baseball

Kiwoom Heroes pitcher Tyler Eppler improved his record to 3-2 with a win over Hanwha in the Korea Baseball Organization. The Navasota graduate allowed four hits and one earned run in seven and one-third innings of his start. He struck out four. The right-hander had a 3.20 earned run average in nine appearances.

Nicholls State University pitcher Josh Mancuso finished with a 2-1 record and 4.74 ERA in 16 appearances. The left-hander is out of Anderson-Shiro.

Men’s outdoor track and field

Ronnie Jackson of McNeese State University earned all-Southland Conference third-team recognition in the triple jump. The past Rattler placed third at the conference meet with a career-best triple jump of 48 feet, 2 inches. He also scored in the high jump and 110-meter hurdles at the meet.

Volleyball

Richards High product Emme Loman is no longer on the Arlington Baptist University roster. She played as a freshman last year.
