Bulldogs outlast the Owls
NEW WAVERLY — Anderson-Shiro overcame a halftime deficit, with a third-quarter surge, but were unable to close out the game falling to the New Waverly Bulldogs, 52-55.
The loss dropped the Owls to 0-2 in District 23-3A. “We just have to find a way to finish these games,” said Owl Head Coach James Glaspie.
New Wavery outscored Anderson-Shiro 15-8 in the opening period, the carried a 28-21 lead into halftime. The Owls flew around the court in the third period using a trap defense to create offensive opportunities and regain the lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-11 in the quarter to take a 42-39 lead.
The Bulldogs outscored the Owls by six in the final period to secure the win. Kevin Smith bested the Owls with 23 points followed by Christian Schroeder with 12. Evan Borski scored five. Glaspie credited Rome Rivera for playing huge in the paint despite a severely sprained thumb. “Kason Yardo and Will Abraham also gave us good minutes off the bench,” said Glaspie. “They are doing a great job being good teammates.”
The Owls will host Iola Dec. 29, at Owl Gym beginning at 11:10 a.m.
