Baker named ‘Newcomer of the Year’
Kae’ron Baker has been recognized for his basketball performance.
The Louisiana College sophomore was named the American Southwest Conference men’s basketball co-newcomer of the year. The Navasota High School graduate also was named to the all-conference second team.
A guard who transferred from Blinn College, Baker averaged 15.1 points, second on the team. He led the squad with 3.0 assists per game and averaged 3.9 rebounds, third on the team. He had the third most steals.

Freshman Trajan Wesley had 11 points, one shy of his season high, for University of Louisiana at Lafayette against Appalachian State. The Navasota resident had three assists, two rebounds and one steal.
Baseball
Senior catcher Zach Pavelock hit in six of his seven starts for University of Texas at Tyler. The Iola High product batted .375 with three runs batted in. He had a .985 fielding percentage in a team-high 67 chances.
Brookhaven College freshman pitcher Trent Clark did not allow a hit in three scoreless innings of relief against Southwest Collegiate Prep. He is a past Rattler.
Men’s rodeo
Navasota resident Foster McCraw placed fifth in bull riding at the Matagorda County event. He earned $260.
Women’s golf
Richards High School graduate Skylar Mast shot 181 (91-90) for University of Arkansas at Monticello in a Tyler Junior College tournament. The freshman was third among the Blossoms.
Women’s indoor track and field
Previously at Navasota, Malaiya Jedkins finished seventh in the triple jump at the Southland Conference indoor championship to score for McNeese State University. The freshman was the anchor for the 4-by-400-meter relay that placed fifth and also scored. She was 27th in the long jump.
