MORRIS DEAN POTEET
1950 – 2021
Morris Dean Poteet was born November 13, 1950 in Huntsville, Texas to Joe and Martha Poteet, and passed peacefully on July 1, 2021 after a short battle with cancer.
After high school graduation, Morris joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam war. Once out of the Army, he started a long career in sales, which afforded him the opportunity to live in many cities throughout Texas and make some lifelong friends.
Morris enjoyed life! Whether it was reeling in the fish of a lifetime or squaring up a big buck in his sights, he found much satisfaction spending time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing. This led to some tall tales, and a little smack talking around the campfire. All true, of course.
Dance moves… and smooth moves. He loved to take Nancy for a spin around the dance floor, and together they wore out a few pair of boots over the years. Aside from hunting and fishing, dancing was one of their favorite things to do together. Morris knew Nancy was ‘the one’, when she refused to let him go on her “girls only” hunting trip. In true Morris fashion, he proposed to her in the deer stand on Christmas day. After Nancy said yes, she turned around and shot a huge 10 point buck. He fell in love all over again.
Family came first. Morris was also an outstanding cook and loved nothing more than sharing a good meal with his loved ones. From his famous bisque, to fried shrimp, and grilled steaks, Morris was always ready to cook for a huge family gathering. Thankfully, he got to do that pretty often in recent years, and he even shared a few of his secret recipes.
Remembering the good times. There are more memories of gatherings and parties than we can count. Morris will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.
Morris is survived by his wife, Nancy Dailey; son, Shane Poteet (Jean); step-daughter, Kelly Roberts (Landon); step-daughter, Kimberly Szeplaki (Joe); step-son, Kirk Parmelly (Jan); sister, Jo Beth Fuller (Frank Majors); sister, Sharon O’Connor ( Patrick); brother, Trax Poteet (Alice Imhoff); grandchildren, Weston Poteet and Harrison Poteet; step-grandchildren, Chase Parmelly, Cody Gould, Cale Gould, Markus Ward, and Matt Ward; great-grandchild, Fields Parmelly; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Martha Poteet.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 24, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, 616 Holland Street in Navasota.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Morris Poteet.
