Doris Jean (Molitor) Shimshack, 78, of College Station, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station, with her final resting place at the College Station City Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 13, at the funeral home.

Doris was born on March 31, 1946, in Navasota to Hilda and Edwin Molitor. After her father Edwin passed away when she was just nine years old, Doris and her mother shared a close and loving bond. At the tender age of 14, Doris met the love of her life, Selze, at a church function in 1960. Selze worked at Thanes Gas Station, and Doris would often visit the Tastee-Freez across the street. Their love blossomed over five years of dating, leading to their marriage on April 15, 1965.

In 1966, they began their family and founded Diamond Floor Covering, where Doris served as the bookkeeper and office manager. They moved to Bryan in 1967 and lived on Helena Street until January 5, 1978, when they moved into the home Selze built for their family in south College Station. Doris’s home was always a welcoming haven for friends she considered her adopted children.

Doris was a gifted and creative soul who loved crafting. She found joy in sewing, embroidery, quilling, making cards, scrapbooking, and the German art of papercutting known as scherenschnitte. One of her most cherished memories was a Rhine River cruise in Germany with her best friend, Ruth Rich. Doris’ love extended deeply to her children, family, extended family, and church friends.

Doris is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sylvester “Selze” Adam Shimshack; her son, Allan Adam Shimshack; her parents, Edwin and Hilda Molitor; and her grandparents, Fritz and Frieda Molitor and Fritz and Minnie Schroeder.

She is survived by her children Darryl Shimshack and his wife Sharon; daughter, Cheryl Kocman and her husband Robert; and daughter- in-law, Liz Shimshack and her husband John Bruce. Doris was immensely proud of her grandchildren Carlee and Addison Shimshack, Cody Kocman, and Katelyn Kocman Leventis and her husband Aaron. Memorials in Doris’ name can be made to Bethel Lutheran Church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jay Fifer, Cody and Robert Kocman, Aaron Leventis, Darryl Shimshack, Anthony Pasket, Rick Smalley, and Shane Woodard.
