CHANEY BENNETT JR.

Funeral services for Chaney Bennett Jr., 87, of Navasota, was held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 1005 Nolan Street in Navasota. Burial will follow in the Dennis Bryant Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church.

On November 14, 1931, a baby boy was born to Chaney and Mary Harris Bennett of Grimes County. They named him Chaney Bennett Jr. He accepted Christ at an early age attending St. Paul Baptist Church of Navasota, Texas and later joined Truevine Missionary Baptist Church in Navasota under the leadership of O.S. Davis, and later under the leadership of Rev. William Gantt, and now under the leadership of Pastor Charlie Hall; where he remained a faithful member until his health failed him.

He received his education at G.W. Carver in Grimes County. Chaney worked at International Paper Company of Navasota for many years and after closing down, he later started working at John C. Webb School in Navasota as a janitor for many years before he retired. Chaney was a hard-working man, he enjoyed planting and working in his garden all the time, and looking out for his family. One of Chaney’s favorite sayings was, “I will Trust in the Lord!”

Chaney Bennett Jr. met and married Gussie Burrell to that union, three children were born.

Later in life, Chaney Bennett Jr. met Eva Mae Thompson and on August 28, 1957, they were united in marriage and to this union, seven children were born.

He departed this earth on July 17, 2019 at Golden Creek Nursing Home in Navasota, Texas. He kept the faith and fought a good fight.

Preceding Chaney in death are his parents, wife (Eva), four sisters, two brothers, daughter (Joyce), stepson (Leon), two grandsons, and two nieces.

He leaves in God’s care nine children; Patricia Bennett Lang, Eloise Bennett, Doris Robinson, Linda (Ben) Tisdell, Annie Thompson (John), Melvin Bennett (Sandra), Chaney McArthur Bennett, Lena (Bobby) Nicker-son, and Sandra (Raymond) Rivera; three stepdaughters, Jerline, Barbara, and Rhonda; brother-in-laws; Alfred (Ruby) Thompson, Raymond (Joyce) Thompson of Houston, Texas.

He also left behind 27 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 43 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special devoted cousin, Allie Powell of Navasota, Texas.
