Teens arrested for firearm thefts
BRYAN – Three teenagers were arrested by Bryan Police Department in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries.
Bryan Police stated in a press release that Joseph Davila, 18, of Plantersville, Ernest Cantu, 18, of Millican and a 16-year-old juvenile from Navasota were arrested Wednesday, May 26. According to police the burglars were targeting unlocked vehicles and stole multiple firearms and several other valuable items.
Officers responded to the Copperfield area after a resident reported seeing unknown people entering their vehicle on a security camera. Officers located three suspects and they were arrested on multiple charges.
Police said the suspects burglarized unlocked vehicles on Knightsbridge Lane, Warwick Lane and Brompton Lane. At least four guns were stolen.
Cantu was charged with four-counts of theft of a firearm, three-counts of burglary of vehicles and engaging in organized criminal activity. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Davila was charged with four-counts of theft of a firearm, three-counts of burglary of vehicles, engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of marijuana. He is being held on a $30,000 bond.
During an interview with KBTX 3 News Reporter Clay Falls, Bryan Police Officer Kole Taylor said, “The three suspects that were caught we believe those were the only three involved. None of them were Bryan residents. They all came from out of town and luckily we had somebody that was paying attention and didn’t hesitate to call us to come get to the area and get those people captured.”
Taylor continued, “There’s no signs of forced entry on any of them [burglarized vehicle]. The majority, obviously the big thing taken was firearms which I mean it’s a 100 percent avoidable offense. It’s simple to take a firearm out of your vehicle and lock your doors on top of that.”
College Station Police told Falls they also took two vehicle burglary reports on Cortez Court Wednesday morning, where a gun was stolen from an unlocked car.
