NPD encourages nightly checklist
Navasota is a great place to live, work and play, and as such the town may attract undesirable visitors. One of our largest crime statistics revolves around theft and burglary. These opportunistic crimes occur when garage doors are left open, exterior buildings unlocked or unlocked vehicles.
To prevent theft, secure valuable items in your vehicle, stow away valuables such as electronics, bags, and packages out of sight, or ideally take them with you. Take your keys with you. Never leave your keys inside your vehicle, even if you’re just stepping out for a moment. Leaving keys in the ignition or within easy reach is an open invitation for theft.
The Navasota Police Department encourages everyone to implement a “9:00 Every Night” safety check routine. Implementing this routine is as easy as counting 1, 2, 3, 4.
Set an alert on your phone for 9 p.m. every night reminding you to perform your “9:00 Every Night” safety check. Then when your alert occurs count to four.
• CLOSE IT – Make sure your garage and all other exterior doors are closed.
• LOCK IT – Lock your doors, windows, and vehicles.
• LIGHT IT – Turn on your front porch and other exterior lights.
• HIDE IT – Hide your valuables and cover your windows.
Performing this nightly routine will help you and your property stay safe and secure.
