Navasota man killed in solo crash

A Navasota man, 35-year old Felipe Sanchez III, lost his life in an early morning single-vehicle accident, Friday July 2.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates Sanchez was traveling northbound at approximately 6:21 a.m. on Farm-to-Market Road 1227 near Wallace Pack Road in a 2012 Honda passenger car. Department of Public Safety Sergeant Justin Ruiz stated Sanchez failed to control his speed while navigating a curve and went off the roadway into the northbound ditch. He over-corrected and went across the roadway into the southbound ditch and rolled several times.

Ruiz said evidence shows Sanchez was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle as the vehicle was still rolling. The car came to rest in a private pasture upright facing southbound.

Sanchez was pronounced deceased on scene by Grimes County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Mark Laughlin.

Ruiz stated the crash is still under investigation but credited Grimes County Sheriff’s Department, Grimes County Constables, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice for assisting with the crash investigation.
