Multiple officers injured in arrest

Multiple Navasota Police Officers were injured during the pursuit and arrest of a known drug user Wednesday, July 3.

A Navasota police officer initiated contact with Michael Fletcher, age 30, on the 700 block of Radcliff Street at approximately 1:00 p.m.

According to Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt the officer realized who the suspect was, and the suspect fled on foot where he entered a residence on the 700 block of Universal Street.

Myatt said the suspect had a TDCJ parole violation for cutting off his ankle monitor.

Backup was called and Fletcher was instructed to voluntarily exit t he residence or officers would use forced entry. The suspect refused and officers proceeded into the residence where Fletcher engaged in a physical altercation injuring five officers.

Myatt said the suspect was believed to be under the influence of PCP and marijuana. The suspect was arrested and faces five counts of assault on a police officer ( 3rd degree felony), one count of resisting arrest (class A misdemeanor), evading on foot (class A misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (class C misdemeanor).

Fletcher was transported and treated at Baylor Scott & White in College Station and then transported to the Grimes County Jail.

The injured officers were treated at CHI St. Joseph in Navasota and released the same day.

Fletcher remains in the Grimes County Jail and has bonds totaling $58,000. He is not eligible for release because of his felony parole violation and blue warrant. The parole violation stems from charges of injury to a child/ elderly/ or disabled with intent to commit bodily injury.
