Two Rivers Heritage Foundation was granted two Texas Historical Markers in the summer of 2020 and they are now in place in Navasota.

The historic Navasota Freedman marker is located at Davis Street and South LaSalle, and the historic Washington Avenue marker is located at the end of the Washington Avenue Blues Alley in the pedestrian island. Both markers, with the cooperation of Navasota city officials and TxDot are placed on highway right of way.

A dedication is planned for the Navasota Freedman marker 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17. The public is welcome and urged to attend the dedication program at the corner of Davis Street and South LaSalle. Carolyn Bessellieu, the African American chairman of the Two Rivers Heritage Foundation, will lead the dedication program. The program will include brief comments of local pastors, residents, Grimes County Commissioner Barbara Walker, and attending City of Navasota officials. Those attending are welcome to bring folding chairs.

Dedication plans for the Washington Avenue markers are underway and will be announced soon.
