Go Texan weekend Jan. 28-30
Fire up the smokers, pack your secret spices and gather your friends for the 2022 Grimes County Go Texan Cookoff weekend benefitting the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Friday, Jan. 28 through Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Grimes County Expo Center, 5220 FM 3455 in Navasota.
Festivities begin with a Go Texan Sponsor Dinner Friday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. Following the dinner, a reverse raffle auction will be held. Entry is $150 per chance with an opportunity to win $5,000. Contact Angie Imhoff, 936-894-2228 for more information. Tickets may be purchased from any committee member. No one under 21 will be allowed entry after 7 p.m.
The fun continues Saturday, Jan. 29, at 9 a.m. with concessions opening. Judging will also take place throughout the day: 9 a.m. Bloody Mary; 11 a.m. Pinto Bean; and the chili judging is at noon.
Other festivities Saturday include: 1 p.m. Children’s Rodeo (7 and under) in the main hall. An adult must attend with the child. There is a $5 entry fee. 4 p.m. Corn Hole Contest – main hall; 8 p.m. till midnight – Teen Dance in Lion’s Club Building with D.J. Terry Meyers.
Admission from 3 p.m. till 11 p.m. Saturday is $10 per person. Children five and under are free. Gate admission includes entry into the teen dance.
Concessions are open Sunday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. Cook-off judging begins at 10 a.m. and the presentation of awards begins at 3 p.m.
