DEA investigating local pharmacist
A Brookshire Brothers pharmacist is facing felony charges after confessing to stealing prescription drugs from the pharmacy for several months.
Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt stated officers responded to Brookshire Brothers Pharmacy, 309 North Lasalle Street in Navasota, Tuesday, Feb. 24. Officers met with the store and pharmacy loss prevention officers who stated pharmacist Anthony Ellis was taking prescription and controlled substances from the pharmacy.
“A confession was obtained from Ellis by store management,” said Myatt. Ellis was arrested and charged with Theft of a Controlled Substance, a third-degree felony. Ellis was also terminated by Brookshire Brothers management.
According to Myatt, Navasota Police Department along with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) are actively investigating the case to figure out a time frame in which the thefts actually began, and other charges are pending against Ellis.
Ellis was released from Grimes County Jail March 1, after posting a $10,000 bond with Capps Bail Bonds in Anderson.
