Coffee at Fanthorp Inn
ANDERSON - Experience the sights and smells of everyone’s favorite morning pick-me-up at Fanthorp Inn, as we roast, grind, and brew coffee, just like they did back in the 1850s.
“For a lot of us, coffee is just a push button away, but back in Fanthorp’s day it took a bit of time and effort to brew that perfect cup of joe,” explained Chandler Wahrmund, Educator at Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site. “With this program we will walk our visitors through that process.”
The event is Jan. 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Interpreters dressed in authentic 1850s clothes will guide visitors through every stage of the coffee making process. Fresh coffee beans will be roasted, ground, and brewed over an open fire.
Guests will even get to experience some of the alternatives to coffee that Texans brewed when regular coffee wasn’t around. Crops such as peanuts, corn, and okra seeds will be prepped just the way coffee was back in the 1800s. Admission is free and open to the public. Cash donations are appreciated.
