Alegria charged with hit-and-run
A Navasota woman, 47-year-old Paula Alegria, is in custody after a hit and-run incident that left one man severely injured.
According to a press release from Navasota Police Department, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, Navasota Police Officers, Navasota Fire Department and CHI St. Joseph medics responded to a male severely injured during a hit-and-run at the 1400 block of East Washington Avenue.
A witness stated he and the victim, a 69-year-old whose identity is being withheld, were crossing East Washington Avenue when the victim was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop. He suffered severe injuries and was air-lifted to Bryan St. Joseph Hospital.
Officers collected evidence from the scene, and on June 12, officers and investigators located a vehicle with damages matching evidence left at the scene. A short time later, Alegria confessed to striking the victim with her vehicle and failing to stop and render aid. She was arrested and charged with Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury, a third-degree felony.
Alegria was released from the Grimes County Jail Sunday, June 12, on a $10,000 bond.
