Celester R. Marshall, sometimes called “Jake,” was born Sept. 5, 1930, and passed away March 12, 2019.

There will be a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Heart of Faith Worship Center, 12275 Homestead Road in Houston. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. with Bishop John Baines officiating.

Employed by Bob Whitten and Pat Craddock, Celester was the first African-American to be employed by the Navasota Examiner. He worked as a pressman for many years and was also a sports writer, covering George Washington Carver High School. His favorite gospel song was “Sending Up My Timber” by the Pilgrim Jubilees. He was well respected and while gone, will never be forgotten.

To God be the glory for what He has done.
