Dear Editor,
Having been in the retail business in Navasota for most of my life, I am very confused about the of the page picture – Chamber welcomes Costco – in the Aug. 10th paper. Why are members of the Grimes County Chamber, Navasota City Manager, a City Councilman so eagerly supporting a business that will pay NO city, county or (possibly a very small portion of) school taxes in Navasota or Grimes County. Costco will pay NO city sales tax in Grimes County but will be taking away from local retail stores that do.
If Costco wants to buy ads in The Examiner, fine. If you as an individual choose to shop there, fine. If Costco wants to become a chamber member, fine. However,
