Navasota is Beautiful
Navasota Artists in Residence Apinya Srikhwanthong and Rebecca Dias have been impacted by their time spent in Navasota so much so that it has inspired them to release a children’s picture book entitled “Navasota is Beautiful.”
“Apinya and I have each stayed in Navasota for almost a year now,” said Dias. “We wanted to create something that could be a lasting gift to the community as a thank you for our time here as artists in residence.”
Dias plans to write the book and have it illustrated by Apinya. “Apinya has captured so many great moments through her art while here in Navasota,” said Dias. “Her artwork really captures the essence of what the town represents.”
“Living in this culture has really impacted me,” explained Apinya. “I have met amazing people during my time here and witnessed some historical events that I enjoy capturing through my artwork.”
Dias and Apinya said Navasota is a great community with a lot to offer through its history and the strides the city is making toward building a better future while preserving the heritage.
“Staying in a historical home, and living here, I have come to appreciate the many facets of Navasota’s history, and I have observed how Navasota is growing and changing too,” stated Dias. “We hope this picture book can help to inspire newcomers and longtime Navasota residents alike to appreciate the history, culture and beauty of Navasota, which Apinya and I have each found in coming here.”
The book will feature the history of Navasota as well as monumental events such as President George H.W. Bush’s train procession that put Navasota in the National spotlight.
Apinya and Rebecca anticipate the book being released in August. They are currently accepting donations and sponsorships to help with the printing costs of the book.
