Once again, I cannot talk enough about 4-H. Texas/ Grimes County 4-H is a club for children in third through twelfth grade with programs for kindergarten through second. Registration for the 2019-2020 year began Aug. 15. Cost of registration is only $25. Grimes County has many 4-H clubs. From food science and robotics to fashion design and photography, there’s a 4-H activity for everyone. Find a club near you to start making friends, learn new skills and be a better you. If you are first timer and are looking for a club for your child, call Stacey Male at the Extension Office, 936-873-3907. To register, go to http:// texas.4honline.com or call Stacey for assistance. Please note that all 8-year old participants that are in the third grade who are starting 4-H for the 2019-2020 need to wait to register until Sept. 1, 2019, or later at 4-H connect.
There are many things 4-H offers including Agriculture and Livestock-from stock shows to beef, dairy, goats, dogs and cats; learn responsibility with animals; Family & Community Health– be a star in the kitchen or a smart shopper; Leadership & Citizenship – practice your public speaking skills, help your community and become a better leader! Come and learn about wildlife, forestry, shooting sports, water conservation, wildlife & fisheries, robotics, computers, building robots and rockets, alternative energy, engineering, rocketry, theater, performance art, photography, outdoor education, sportfishing, gardening, travel, veterinary, bugs, plants, gardening, technology and more. See, there is something for every personality– try it out!
Flag Football is coming to Anderson-Shiro for boys and girls ages Prekindergarten through sixth grade. Registration fee is $35 for the first child and $30 for each additional child. Registration ends Aug. 23. Divisions include Minis- prekindergarten and kindergarten; Primary- first and second grade; Juniors- third and fourth grade; Seniors; fifth and sixth grade. All games will be played in Anderson on Saturdays. Game days are Sept. 14, 21, 28 and Oct. 5. Practice starts the week of Aug. 26. St. Mary’s 125th Annual homecoming and bazaar is set for Sunday, Sept. 1, beginning at 11 a.m. There will be games and booths of all kinds, a kid’s zone, live and silent auctions, tour of the historic painted church, live entertainment throughout the day and much more. The event will take place on the parish grounds 2-1/2 miles north of Hwy. 105 at the corner of FM 1774 and CR 205. For more information go to www.smsj.org or call the office at 936-894-2223.
