Richards ISD Bond passes
It’s both exciting and daunting to know the Richards Community, paired with the Richards ISD board have achieved the first step in the biggest project our community has taken on yet. In 2019, I spoke with RISD staff about their needs to build new facilities and their want to provide a better school for our Panthers, then COVID hit and it seemed that all our dreams were dashed, and worry set it in. But 2021 started, and with it the dreams reignited, and here we are in May with an approved bond that got overwhelming support from our community. While this is wonderful, our board, and the leaders at RISD need your prayers and support- as this will be a daunting adventure. Plan to attend the board meetings at RISD, listen to the Boards plans, and be willing to help if you can.
May 6, Richards Civic Club will also make history offering its first ever food pantry and food services to our community. The project is being led by Jill Foster Myers and is off to a good start. She will be working with several volunteers to ensure food of all kinds are put together and handed out efficiently to the families in our community that need it. “We are excited to start this, I know it’s going to be successful because we all want to help and reach people here,” Foster explained. May 6 is also National Day of Prayer- even if you do not plan on volunteering at the civic club, stop by and offer prayer or pray for this group where you are at. They are working so hard and can use our support.
Union Grove is a busy church in our area. They have upcoming events including a Variety Show fundraiser scheduled for May 7 at 6 p.m. This will be hosted at the church and funds raised will be used to help send local youth to camp in the summer. On May 16 the group will also host a church picnic with the event starting at their church grounds for lunch and then heading to Gibbons creek for fun.
Now that May elections are complete, we will begin moving to projects for Census redistricting, as groups involved with the county will begin discussing population growth effects to each area of our county and if there are precincts or districts that will need to have redistricting. This will be an ongoing project for the county, commissioners, VFDs and local governments with upcoming informational meetings soon to be scheduled for June.
