Since 2007, the children of Sylvester and Laura Sechelski have celebrated their Polish heritage every third Saturday of October. As usual this celebration took place in the barn of Marion and Evelyn (Sechelski) Szymczak in Anderson. The highlight of the evening is the serving of Czarnina (duck soup) with homemade noodles. Although I’m German, our Polish friends always invite us to this special event. For those that don’t care for Czarnina like me, they also serve a delicious homemade chicken noodle soup which is my favorite. Along with the soups, delicious “top of the line” fried chicken, vegetable dishes and superb desserts are served. The soups and lots of other things on the menu originate from their mother Laura. I know the parents of these seven brothers and three sisters are proud of their children for carrying on such a tradition.
