Children’s Christmas Eve Program
There has been a Christmas parade in most of Grimes County towns. Navasota announced they had 65 entries. I didn’t quite understand the parade being on the wrong side of the street, but we were able to get close for little man to see. He loved the 18-wheeler, big trucks and any Grinch in sight.
We were not able to get a good picture of Chucky in the band and we didn’t want to shout at him and cause him to get out of step. That boy was so tired when we picked him up. Going to the tree lighting was no longer on his list of things to do, he just wanted to go home. The high school band concert was Thursday, and the students were awesome. Two students receiving all region honors included Gracie Haynes (works at Whitehall Café) and Chucky.
Somerville ISD posted all the football honors and Canyon “Bean” Surovik received 14-2A First Team All-District honors for offensive line. I know they are only a 2A school, but I am proud of him, bad knees and all.
Don’t forget to check the schedules for churches in the area. Salem Lutheran has their Children’s Christmas Eve program. The community also includes Lynn Grove Methodist and Union Grove Baptist who welcomes visitors. Each of these have a Facebook page to check for times.
Speaking of Union Grove, I wore my 150-year shirt to BCS. A man stopped me and said he knew where White Hall was. He told me he was the pediatrician for Faber McMullen’s boys when they were in Houston. At another store, I opened the door for a couple and the man, and I had a nice conversation. He knew my relatives who were murdered at Raccoon Bend in 1996. One of the cashiers at Specs remembered me as we once talked about an eggnog that is made in Puerto Rico and marketed out of homes due to shelf life. He wanted me to know that a family in Brazos County makes it and to check back with him because he has their phone number.
At another store, I ran into a former co-worker from TAMU. She was there when I had Kacie. She sat very close to me and there were times I was afraid she would get both of us run off. Further down the aisle, a lady asked me about some Sargento cheese, and I did not have on a blue vest. Needless to say, it was a special day meeting such kind people.
