KBTX Food Drive at Mid-South Synergy

The KBTX Food for Families Food Drive is just around the corner. The goal of this mission is to eliminate hunger by the distribution of food and grocery products through a network of nonprofit organizations while providing education and community awareness on issues of hunger. On Dec. 4, you may deliver any food or monetary donations to Mid-South Synergy in Navasota from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. A hundred percent of the donations stay in the county they are donated in. A list of items you can donate include: canned or dried beans, canned meat, cereal and cereal bars, coffee, canned or dried pasta, paper towels, toilet paper, peanut butter, children’s diapers, canned fruits or vegetables, rice and soups. The Anderson Food Pantry will be open Thursday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. till noon and later in the day from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. All residents of the county are invited to participate. The Grimes County Mobile Food Bank will be open Thursday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Expo Center in Navasota. Grimes County residents are eligible to participate. You must show proof of residence to receive food.
Gosh, it’s hard to believe that it is December once again. As usual, the Herzog/Hoffart families gathered in Dobbin at my grandparent’s home (now owned by my Uncle Darrell Herzog), for Thanksgiving as we do each year. We all look forward to Darrell’s dressing (Grandma Rosa Herzog’s recipe that he has mastered quite well). And it was the best. We always make sure he makes plenty so we can take a doggie bag home.
I always host the Sowell family Thanksgiving in Anderson on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Don’s Uncle Harry (age 91) and Aunt Flo (age 92) Brennen drove in that morning from Waxahachie for lunch, then visited his sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and John Sowell at the nursing home in Navasota before heading back home that day. Uncle Harry called me a bit after 6 p.m. saying they had made it home. I can’t even imagine doing that at that age. They are remarkable and special people to our family for sure. On that evening a group of our family members attended Twilight-Firelight at the Fanthorp Inn which we thoroughly enjoyed.
So now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to concentrate on the Christmas holidays and the hectic rat-race of getting the Christmas shopping done! I like so many, don’t do the “Black Friday” shopping and am usually scrambling the last week of Christmas trying to get it all done. Then there are others that are finished shopping already and is ready for Christmas. I don’t see that ever happening in my life.
