My week has started out slowly but maybe I should whisper that. I did have a sick grandson for two days. Both grands next door went to Today Care with possible flu symptoms but not confirmed. There are only hugs at this point because I don’t need the flu.

The Friday night Queen of Hearts reached approximately $700 and no winner but we have just begun. Mr. Carl Dry celebrated his 86th birthday and relatives came to surprise him on his special day. It did appear that he was having a good time. The game is to continue each Friday at the Whiskey Tango and food is available next door at the Wooden Spoke.

Condolences to the family of Albin Finke who passed away the end of last week. His service was held Friday the 21st at Salem Lutheran Church.

Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Whatley for coming to Salem last Sunday. I hope that you will come again. As a reminder, Ash Wednesday services begins at 6:30 p.m. with a soup dinner and worship at 7:30 p.m.

Sonshine Sisters enjoyed a new player, Kimberly. I just hope that she had as much fun as the rest of us did. Come rain or shine, those dominoes are calling our names! Come back Kimberly.

Grimes Veterans of Foreign War Post 4006 and Auxiliary held a program for five winners prior to the meeting on Thursday. Three essay applicants won the “What Makes America Great” contest. We also honored two teachers who were nominated for the Smart Mayer Teacher Citizenship. All of these winners were given a certificate and a check. Lori Stephens, Counselor at RISD, was recognized for all her efforts in encouraging the students to enter these contests. Veteran, Harry Johnson, made some awesome spaghetti and meatballs. The meal was a hit! Hopefully, you will see photos in The Examiner soon. I want to thank all the members of both the Post and Auxiliary for coming to honor these applicants.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder, Pauline Kaspar, Michelle Guajardo, sister of Billy Robbins, and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
