Evergreen Baptist VBS July 17
Major renovation work is currently underway at Evergreen Baptist Church. The lobby is being enlarged as well as other work. Hopefully this will go well and will be finished before too long. It sure is a mess presently.
Evergreen Baptist Church is planning their Vacation Bible School for Sunday, July 17, through Wednesday, July 20, from 6:30 – 8:45 p.m. The title of VBS is “Make Waves.” For more information call Misti, 979-229-8097. Hope all will go well with the school.
Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Bernard Chesnutt who died Tuesday, June 14. His funeral was held at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Saturday, June 25. Due to the illness of Brother Tim Owens, the church pastor, services were conducted by Brother Jeff Morgan, pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church. Do remember his wife, Linda Rae Smith Beene and other family members in your prayers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Evelyn Chesnutt, who passed away several years ago. Do remember his family members in your prayers.
Yet another death of an area resident was that of J. Lynn Tyler who passed away Sunday, June 19. His funeral was held at First Baptist Church in Navasota. He was born July 12, 1934 in Groesbeck. He was married to Dorris Jean Harmon, and together they had three children. He was a member of Iola Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic lodge. Do remember his wife and other family members in your prayers.
The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club was held at the Keith Community Center with a small number in attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by those present. During the business meeting the main item of business discussed was the need for a new roof on the building. Donations are needed for this project. A group of children and adults from Evergreen Baptist Church are currently at Pineywoods Camp in Woodlakes. They left Sunday, June 26, and will be back before this column publishes. The next group left Tuesday, July 5. Please pray for all the children during the summer months that they will all be safe and secure during the summer months.
The monthly meeting of the Iola-North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star was held June 27, in North Zulch at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge with a full crowd attending. A wonderful meal of all sorts of food was enjoyed by all. At the meeting the yearly installation of officers was conducted. All but two officers were installed into their place of office.
