Evergreen Baptist 125th Anniversary

The memorial service for Edward Ray Pointer, Sr. that was held at the Evergreen Baptist Church Saturday, March 7, was certainly well attended. The church was filled with both family members and friends that spoke about his life while a slideshow played in the background with pictures of him and his family. More chairs were brought in to make plenty of room. The message was delivered by his cousin Jason Pointer. Lunch was served at the fellowship hall following the service. Later that day his ashes were taken to the Pankey Cemetery. Ray was a 1968 graduate of Iola High School. Please remember his wife Martha and family in your prayers.

Upcoming events in the area includes the monthly meeting of the Iola-North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star No. 458 which will meet at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge No. 593 in North Zulch on Monday, March 23. The meeting will begin with a covered dish at 6:30 p.m., the Star meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m. All members of the Eastern Star are invited to attend.

Hope all area kids had a wonderful time with their week off from school March 9-13. Glad for the kids but sorry for the parents that had to find some place to park the kids.

The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club will be Thursday, March 26. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by their business meeting. All are welcome to attend. If you wish to join as a member the dues are $15 each or $25 for a couple. Do make plans to come out and visit with your relatives, friends and neighbors. Dale Sharper, PCT 1 Constable, will be the guest speaker.

Evergreen Baptist Church will celebrate its 125th anniversary Sunday, April 5 with church services, lunch and an Easter egg hunt. Do make plans to attend. Members are expected, and visitors are always welcome. Hope to see you there.
