It’s amazing what $3.99 per gallon gas can accomplish! For years I’ve complained about drivers speeding 80-plus mph on SH 6 but now, in a strange turn of events, another group is in the crosshairs of my ire – the drivers going 55 mph! Geez, maybe comedian Chris Rock was right when he said “You can never make a woman happy, it’s impossible. They’re always complaining about something.”

She was born on August 8, 1937, to the parentage of Angeline Steptoe Broussard Willis and Isaac Broussard. She was also raised by Andrew Moore, who was known to all as her father. Lavada’s mother later married Isom Willis who also loved her as his own daughter.

One of the most therapeutic things in my life the first year or two after my husband died was walking from my house to downtown admiring the stately old homes and enjoying the shade the towering trees provided. The sidewalk in front of the former Red Door Bed & Breakfast was lined with beds of fragrant flowers allowing me to literally get out and smell the roses! The last thing I want to see on Washington Avenue is commercial creep - that incremental destruction of Navasota’s proud gateway to its historic downtown.

Nevertheless, it always eventually functioned as designed - it closed without a hitch and the door would lock. And it opened just as often, albeit with some effort.
