What a beautiful weekend we had with all the sunshine. My Friday consisted of phone calls, baking and Navasota softball in Bellville. It was their last game for the season. I miss this sport since Bree opted out, however, I still have Bean in baseball.

A community garden was established at 42 Place in Navasota as part of a Community Health Improvement Grant through CommonSpirit. The funds helped 42 Place get raised beds and plants.

Entergy (Entergy Texas) partnered with United Way Brazos Valley for a school supply drive. The grant helped purchase nearly 60,000 school supplies that will impact the lives of over 26,000 students in the Brazos Valley including Navasota ISD, Richards ISD, Iola ISD, Anderson-Shiro CISD and multiple other schools in the Brazos Valley.

The fate of the historic Horlock House was once again the topic of a Navasota city council workshop Monday, April 22 and well-attended by members of city and county historical organizations. Following the 90-minute meeting revealing the Navasota Grimes County (NGC) Chamber of Commerce’s desire to relocate to the Horlock House, it was determined a committee should be appointed and repairs prioritized for safe occupancy with follow-up in May.

The Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary donated $500 to a local family who has children battling health needs. Preston and Brittany Goode, who both work for Grimes County Sheriff’s Office adopted their children several years ago. Their son Gabriel has battled cancer, and their daughter Sylvia needs ear surgery to improve her hearing. VFW Auxiliary member, Georgia Molitor, presented the family with the check.
