Following a public hearing at the Aug. 26 Regular Meeting, the Navasota City Council postponed action on a vape shop-related zoning amendment to Sept. 9. In addition, staff and legal counsel were asked to draft the proposed ordinance to reflect Planning & Zoning’s recommendation to remove “tobacco” as one of the prohibited stores in order to allow cigar bars or lounges. The original amendment prohibited tobacco, hookah and vapor retail stores in the city’s 14 zoning districts.

November General Election voters will see a change in voting location options this year. Grimes County Commissioners Court approved moving Voting Pct. 3 from its present location at the Progressive Outreach Center to the Carver Building, 1602 S. LaSalle Street in Navasota, and moving Voting Pct. 9 from the Richards Volunteer Fire Department to the Thomas Memorial Hall, 6611 FM 1486 in Richards.

Navasota Evening Lions Club constructed a wheelchair ramp Aug. 17, for Gene Rymer, a Grimes County man who has battled differentiated liposarcoma for 12 years. He has exhausted all treatment options and was confined to the house due to his mobility. His neighbor, Doug Powell, contacted Navasota Evening Lions Club to see if they can assist. Navasota Masonic Lodge #299 also assisted with the planning and construction.
