Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Irene Glass Hensley who passed away on May 27. She was born Feb. 26, 1924, the daughter of A.W. and Tessie Glass. She was married to John W. “Jake” Hensley who preceded her in death April 18, 1975. Her funeral was held at the Madisonville Funeral Home with a large number of family members and friends present. Her service was conducted by Bro. Dale Evans and Bro. Tim Owens. Her burial was in the Pankey Cemetery.

It’s an exciting time for many young people in Grimes County. The Grimes County Fair reported an exceptional year under the circumstances. Hats off to all those who made this possible. Many hours go into preparing for the fair that takes place in our county each year. This year was no exception as things had to be done a little different than normal years.

I attended the wedding of my oldest granddaughter last weekend. Of course, I got lost, again. I was only 2.9 miles from my turnoff but back in the area where the wedding was held, it seemed more like 29 miles. I only thought CR 302 was curvy, nope! However, there are those big arrows instructing you which way to turn prior to coming up on the curve. The weather was good for an outside casual attire event and the hosting family did a wonderful job for Stephanie and Brandon. Being the grandma, I had a corsage, too! Not sure it looked that good with jeans. With that said, I have a grandson-in–law and three more great grandchildren to add to this already crazy group.

The Brazos Valley Food Bank along with Chickfil-A, KBTX, HEB, Christian Community Center and the Iola Food Pantry distributed over 300 free Chick-fil-A box meals to Grimes County residents Saturday, May 30 at the Grimes County Fairgrounds. The Iola Bulldog seniors lined the street outside of Bulldog Stadium dressed in their cap and gowns and witnessed a parade put on by the school and community to honor their achievements. Seniors have been secluded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, May 22, they stood “socially distanced” according to CDC guidelines but strongly together as the community offered a gesture of support to what they have and will face in the future.
