As a family we love High School sports- we love the determination of the young athletes to be the best, and the celebration of success from the coaches. Richards is no different, we have celebrated their wins, and mourned their losses- but enjoyed the progress of Panther athletics. The RISD High School boys ended their basketball season with a loss to North Zulch Friday, playing for entry into the playoffs at the Madisonville High School gym. The team contains three seniors: Joseph Miller, Reece Wrobleski and Darryl Lovings. All three were celebrated during senior night at RISD and were presented with a basketball from the team and gifts from parents. Athletes at RISD are gearing up for track and baseball now, with the school beginning work on the fields and coaches solidifying the spring schedule.
Read moreHappy belated birthday to Dr. Bob! He and his wife used to come to assist with the fundraisers for the Whitehall Community Center all the time. He came to buy some BBQ Saturday and told me that he was going to celebrate his 90th birthday. I am so glad that I got to see him again. Of course, I did not recognize him with the mask, but I should have recognized the hat!

Read moreSunday was a special day for D’Lynn Robbins. After taking classes with Pastor Richard Mayerhoff, she renewed her beliefs and faith in God and was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. Following the ceremony her parents honored her by serving a special lunch for family and friends at the Educational Building. Gail Schroeder and Karen Oncken helped in the kitchen preparing the meal. I was asked to make the cake so one of my usual “cross” cakes was one of the desserts. Several other people brought desserts also, just like most German women do for special occasions.
Read moreThe pulpit at Evergreen Baptist Church was filled Sunday, Jan. 24 by Deacon Ed Costello as the church pastor was still recovering from his stay in the hospital while suffering from coronavirus and pneumonia. He and his family were present for the service but is recovering slowly. Ed did a wonderful job and the service was enjoyed by all present.
