The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, along with the Knights of Columbus #4053 and St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, is once again trying to fulfill the much-needed call for blood. A blood drive will be held at the St. Stanislaus Parish Hall in Anderson on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. till 1 p.m.

Wow, the lightning show Friday night was something else. Chucky and I went to the Navasota game but after waiting close to two hours, we decided to go home. Lightning was not something my boy liked. However, those Rattlers won, and Paige performed.

It took River Captain Henry Miller Shreve three years to finally clear the Red River of the giant raft that had formed over the centuries. It was located just above today’s Shreveport to allow navigation of the Red River. The town, in thanks, took Shreve’s name as its namesake.

Well folks the bad news for the week is Iola Junior High/ High School has been closed until after Labor Day due to coronavirus. Hopefully everything will get better soon. Because of the closure the first two football games were canceled.

Since May, members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stoneham have been selling raffle tickets for their 52-week gun raffle. The first winner was drawn Sunday, Aug. 30. The winner’s name is Bo Imhoff winning a Remington 1911 R1, 45 ACP. A name will now be drawn every Sunday for the next year.
